Frequently Asked Ice Sculpture Questions
How far ahead should I place my order?
There’s no strict deadline, but ordering a week or two in advance is ideal. For custom designs, earlier is better so we have ample time to craft the perfect sculpture for your event. While we have fulfilled same-day requests, we don’t recommend relying on that option as it can include rush fees.
How long does an ice sculpture remain intact?
Indoors, an ice sculpture generally holds up for about 6 to 8 hours. Outdoors in hot summer conditions, expect it to last roughly 4 to 5 hours. Avoid placing sculptures in direct sunlight — prolonged UV exposure can begin to break down the crystal structure in as little as 45 minutes.
Are there any hidden extra charges?
No. We believe the price you pay should cover everything necessary for your ice sculpture(s) — no surprises or pressured add-ons. Each sculpture includes an integrated drainage system and standard white lighting. Customizations may incur additional costs. For instance, adding color to the ice is a $50 upgrade, and specialty lighting can increase the price as well. Before production begins, you’ll receive a complete breakdown of the design and the total cost for all requested options. We only start crafting the piece after you review and approve the final design and pricing.
Do ice sculptures last outside in the summertime?
Yes — with the right conditions and care, ice sculptures can last outdoors in summer. Our crystal-clear ice is free of air and impurities, which makes it denser and stronger than ordinary ice, so it resists melting longer. Heat alone (even in August or September) won’t immediately ruin a properly made sculpture.
Important guidelines to maximize longevity:
Avoid direct sunlight. Even durable ice will warm and melt much faster in sun exposure.
Place sculptures in a shaded, well-ventilated area to slow melting.
Use a sturdy, insulated base or drip tray to manage meltwater and protect surfaces.
Minimize heat sources near the sculpture (grills, stage lights, heaters).
For long events, consider positioning the sculpture where breezes can help dissipate heat without accelerating direct melting.
If you need a sculpture for an outdoor summer event, contact us to discuss design, placement recommendations, and any on-site support to ensure the piece performs as intended.
Can the sculpture be in sunlight?
No. Ultraviolet (UV) rays break down the ice’s crystal structure. As the crystals separate, the sculpture will crack and deteriorate — noticeable changes can appear in as little as one hour, and continued exposure will cause the sculpture to eventually collapse.
Do I have to order a specific sculpture from the gallery?
No — you don’t have to order sculptures only through the website. Most of our sculptures are custom-made. We create design drawings for each client to review and approve before carving. You can email a photo or your own sketch, and we’ll craft a piece tailored to your request. We don’t make the sculpture until you approve the design.
How precisely can you replicate our artwork or logo?
We use state-of-the-art equipment to carve sculptures featuring corporate logos and custom designs. Our CNC (computer-navigated cutter) operates with precision down to one ten-thousandth of an inch. We can import your artwork directly into our system and reproduce your logo with approximately 99.9% accuracy.
What are the sculpture dimensions?
A single ice block measures 40 inches high, 20 inches wide, and 10 inches thick. That said, not every sculpture fits exactly within those measurements. Most single-block sculptures range from 40 to 50 inches in height and 20 to 30 inches in width. For table setup we use two drain pan sizes: 27 × 21 inches (smaller) and 41 × 21 inches (larger). We also offer self-contained centerpiece drain pans that are 12 inches in diameter.
Does a CNC machine diminish the artistry?
Not at all. It enables us to make finer, more precise cuts and reproduce logos exactly. The carving itself remains hand-executed by highly skilled artisans, so the artistic craftsmanship is fully preserved.
Do you use molds?
No. every part of the sculpture is designed and hand crafted using all available tools.
What type of tools does the ice sculpture industry use?
In addition to our Ice Monger CNC machine, we use chainsaws, die grinders with special precision cutting bits, angle grinders, chisels, and heated plates of aluminum and some pretty interesting homemade tools.
How long does it take to make an ice sculpture?
Each sculpture is unique, so there isn’t a fixed time frame for completion. Large projects are typically created in separate sections. Because of the variety of sculptures we produce and the number of projects underway, carving can take anywhere from a few hours to three weeks or longer.
What occasions do we make sculptures for?
We create ice sculptures for country clubs, hotels, resorts, restaurants, and event venues. We’ve also produced pieces for private house parties, bars, fraternities, weddings, corporate events, and holiday gatherings. Whatever the type of party or the location, we can design and deliver the perfect sculpture for your event.
